The Autumn Express by MoreVespenegas The Autumn Express by MoreVespenegas
Well this one was a WIP for quite a while and sort of... got away from me.
It did not end up like I first envisioned it. I'm okay with how it turned out, some parts I still don't like but it would take too long to redo them so blah. I'll just work on something else instead.

Oh boy, it's an old piece so I think everything is blah now.
At the time I think I remember being dissatisfied with the foreground leaves in particular though.

It was actually partly inspired by a few lines in a story I was reading. Mostly of my memories of riding trains back in Ukraine.

You have a very great talent with scenery, I must say. The mountains, the trees, the train itself. And the lighting! I can tell it can be a bit difficult to get those tree shadows right, but you seem to have got that down very well here.

Now, the parts that aren't quite as enjoyable would be more along places like the blurriness of some of the closer things like the leaves and branches, and how Fluttershy looks herself. However, those come under basic opinion, and shouldn't really be counted for because this seems to be your style- a very unique painterly style that looks wonderful.

Yeah foliage is particularly hard for me. It's very busy and full of hard edges but that's hard to paint without totally abstracting it to just a blob of color with a few leaf outlines.
Anything in particular bothering you on Fluttershy? Is it just the area in the middle that's lacking texture?

No, it's Fluttershy's expression really- but then again that sort of thing always happens in still images. =p

Ahh yes, maybe it's the eyebrows. They have them in the show but as transition frames usually.

Whoa, so intricate! The layering and perspective are really well done but the details like the wood texturing and shadows really add to it. The effect of the gentle blowing of the wind is really well achieved.

Ah, I see. And don't worry about it; they're not actually given anywhere, to my knowledge, so uncovering them through research probably would have been impossible. I friend and I had to work them out based on screen captures (though, really, the friend did most of the work while I stood around saying "Wow, that's pretty awesome."). We eventually decided that, for a candy-cane-scale derived average pony height of 1.22m (hoof to head), the track gauge is 7ft (_nearly_, though not quite, Brunel gauge) and the loading gauge is rectangular, 10.5ft wide and 18.5ft from railtop to tallest point. Sorry about the gauges being in American units, but we also decided that that was, sadly, probably appropriate.

And a bit short. Heights about right though. Aww yeah, didn't screw everything up.
